Our Story
BISWAS begins with a name that already carried meaning. In Bengali, বিশ্বাস stands for trust, belief, and faith. It is also the founder’s own surname, not created for branding, but inherited, lived with, and placed directly onto the leather as a mark of accountability.
Built on a simple standard: the object must justify its place. Designed in London. Crafted in Kolkata. Each piece is made from full-grain Nappa leather, selected for how it wears over time, not just how it looks on day one. Nothing is added without reason. The form is restrained. The details are there to serve the person carrying it.
That standard comes from lived experience. Deep, an international development economist and former diplomat, was posted to the British High Commission in Tanzania at twenty five. The years that followed took him across more than fifty countries and into rooms where judgement mattered, where what you carried was often noticed before what you said.
In those environments, small objects were never incidental. At checkpoints, receptions, borders, offices, and formal rooms, the card holder in his pocket became part of how he arrived. It had to perform quietly. It had to be practical, presentable, and worth producing in moments where everything was being read.
BISWAS LONDON brings that belief into leather goods. It connects London and Kolkata, family and craft, language and accountability. The result is not a logo-led accessory brand, but a considered collection of objects made for people who recognise quality without needing it announced.
"The object must earn its place."
